19th Oklahoma Environmental Education Expo
“The Amazing EE Race – S.T.E.M. Edition”
The 19th Oklahoma Environmental Education Expo was held at the OKC Zoological Park and Botanical Garden on Friday, February 5, 2016. A total of 97 educators attended the conference and 10 agencies/organizations had exhibit booths. The theme for this year’s EE Expo was “The Amazing EE Race – STEM Edition”. The opening session featured a keynote address from Tiffany Neill and Levi Patrick, Director of Science Education and Director of Secondary Mathematics Education with the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Conference attendees went to concurrent sessions (based on grade level) that explored topics such as “Dedrochrologist Detective”, “Save the Penguins” and “The Science of Flight and Bernoulli’s Principal”. The afternoon session featured “The Amazing EE Race- STEM Edition” which placed participants on teams that went off to explore zoo exhibits with a STEM “lens”. They were inspired by zoo animals and identified prompts that could inspire lesson plans related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. All attendees gathered back together at the end of the day to share some of their STEM inspired lesson ideas. All conference participants received an OKAEE lapel pin and an Amazon.com gift card to use towards the purchase of educational materials for STEM lessons.
